2012 Annual Back-to-School Drive Information:
The Walter & Connie Payton Foundation's priority is to
help in-need children in the State of Illinois who are apart
of (DCFS) Illinois Department of Children & Family
Services, and for individual families that contact
us needing a helping hand.
Didn’t you love to go to the store when you were a child, gather up all of your school supplies off of the class list and get your new backpack and folders with your favorite cartoon character or animal on it? (There’s nothing like coloring with brand new crayons!) Why not go out and have some fun doing this once again? There are so many children that need your help so they can go to school with the proper school supplies this year!
The Walter and Connie Payton Foundation’s priority is to help in-need children through-out the State of Illinois. One way we help these children is by gathering the surrounding communities to collect new school supplies. We are approaching that time of year again where we want to help these children prepare to go back to school with all of the necessary supplies. Please read the below information on WCPF’s Back-to-School Supply Drive and complete the registration form if you are interested in participating in this year’s event.
What is needed / given?
New backpacks each filled with: 1 pack of pencils, 1 bottle of washable glue, 1 24-count box of crayons, 2 spiral notebooks, 2 folders, 1 pack loose-leaf paper, 1 eraser, 1 ruler, 1 watercolor paint set, 1 pair of children’s safety scissors, 1 pack of pencils, 1 pack of pens, 1 highlighter marker.
** Please note additional supplies may be added to backpacks, not just limited to the items above.
** Backpacks filled with items for children in High School and College are welcomed too!
** ANY, and ALL, donations are welcomed!
Who are the supplies given to?
In August, the supplies are handed out at the Annual Back-to-School Parade held in the Englewood Neighborhood, which is a low-income neighborhood in Chicago. This year’s Parade will be hosted on Saturday August __ , 2012. There are 35 schools in the Englewood area, all of which are "troubled" areas. With the help of the Chicago Police Department, the filled backpacks are handed-out to in-need children at the parade. These children would not be able to start their school year with all the necessary supplies if we did not help them. WCPF also provides for individual families and schools throughout Illinois that contact us whom need assistance getting supplies for their children or any child that is in-need.
How do we collect these supplies?
Businesses and Individual persons host School Drives for WCPF. You can host it at your work, summer school, on your own as a personal charity, your place of worship, ANYWHERE! After the drive is over WCPF collects the supplies and brings them to our warehouse in Wood Dale to be sorted and stuffed into backpacks. This helps us give them away in an orderly fashion, as there is one filled backpack per child.
How do you get involved?

Coordinate A Back-to-School Supply Drive! Simply complete the registration form and return to us by fax to 630.552.7618 or mail to WCPF, 1905 Marketview Drive #234, Yorkville, IL 60560. We can then provide you with the appropriate supplies to assist you in making your school drive a success!

Monetary donations are welcomed! Sometimes people’s schedules don’t allow them time to run out to purchase supplies but would like to donate to the School Drive. All check donations are to be written out to WCPF and mailed to us at the address above. Credit card donations can be made directly on-line at www.Payton34.com.

We will be organizing the backpacks in our warehouse mid-August. If you would like to volunteer at our warehouse email us at Nancy@Payton34.com. The dates are not yet set, but we will keep your name on the volunteer list and contact you via email with more details when dates are finalized.
